Liverpool’s preparations for the new season will intensify this week, with supporters hoping the return to pre-season action will be followed by further activity in the transfer market.
Andoni Iraola welcomed the majority of his squad back to the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, with Jeremy Jacquet the only new arrival among the first-team group. Victor Munoz remains away on international duty at the World Cup with Spain.
The Liverpool boss has made it clear he is keen to strengthen his squad further, with a new winger to replace Mohamed Salah viewed as a priority. However, the Reds are also exploring the possibility of adding another midfielder before the new campaign gets underway.
OPINION
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the latest transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds.
Manuel Kone (AS Roma)
Liverpool could be set for a transfer battle with Manchester United over Roma midfielder Manu Kone, with both Premier League rivals reportedly interested in the France international.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool have renewed their interest in the 25-year-old, who has impressed for France at the World Cup. Kone has previously been linked with the Reds dating back to his time at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Atletico Madrid had also been pursuing the midfielder and were reportedly confident of completing a deal for around $51 million (€45 million). However, Roma’s need to raise funds to meet UEFA financial regulations has changed the situation, with the club now said to have increased Kone’s asking price to $68 million (€60 million) which makes a move to Atletico unlikely.
Liverpool.com says: The France international has impressed with his performances for Roma, earning praise for his physical presence, ball-carrying ability and defensive qualities. The 25-year-old’s versatility and experience at the highest level could make him an attractive option for Liverpool, although any deal would likely require a significant long-term investment.

Curtis Jones (Liverpool)
Inter Milan has reportedly made a third attempt to sign Curtis Jones, but Liverpool have once again rejected an approach for the England midfielder. The Reds previously turned down two offers from the Serie A side last month, with the biggest bid believed to have been worth around $29 million (€25m).
Liverpool has placed a valuation of $47 million (£35m) on Jones, although the club are reluctant to part ways with the academy graduate unless that figure is met. According to Ben Jacobs, Inter have now submitted a fresh $37 million (€32m) proposal through intermediaries, but the offer was immediately rejected. Jones is expected to remain at Liverpool unless the Italian club meets the Reds’ asking price.

Iraola has already made it clear that he hopes the 25-year-old midfielder stays at Anfield this summer. He stated on Monday: "I will have the chance to speak with him today. I rate Curtis very highly. For me, he is a great, great player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing. It's very important that he's Scouse, that he's from here. I also like the personality. From the outside, at least, he looks like a player with good character, and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time."

Liverpool.com says: Jones has been a reliable squad option for Liverpool. It seems as though Andoni Iraola is keen to keep the 25-year-old around. However with Inter not giving in to its pursuit of the midfielder, Liverpool could be willing to let the Scouser go for the right price.
