Rangers risk being 'priced out' of transfer for star despite club enlisting Arsenal superstar…

Former Rangers star man has been linked with a move back to Ibrox

Besiktas’ £17 million signing of Premier League winner Leandro Trossard may have given Rangers fans hope that they’d be winning to offload fellow winger Vaclav Cerny - however reportedly, the Light Blues are still nowhere near a deal.

The former Czech international impressed during his loan spell at Ibrox from Wolfsburg during the 2024/25 campaign with 27 goal contributions in 52 appearances. Since then, there have been many rumoured attempts from the club to re-sign the 28-year old, however current circumstances make him ‘unlikely to be a viable target’ during this transfer window.

The marquee signing of Arsenal hero Trossard, as well as Besiktas’ ongoing interest in Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu shows the Turkish giants are willing to push the boat out to acquire quality additions in wide areas. However, Record Sport understands that despite the ongoing overhaul, Rangers are still being ‘priced out’ of a deal for Cerny.

Rangers hopes of signing Cerny ‘unlikely’

The Daily Record claim: “Rangers fear they will be priced out of any attempted move to lure Vaclav Cerny back to Glasgow this summer. Record Sport understands the Ibrox club have been exploring the possibility of striking a deal with Besiktas for the 28-year-old - 12 months after Cerny sealed a €5million (£4.2million) move to the Turkish big guns.

“But, while the winger is believed to be open to the idea, his bosses at Besiktas are in no rush lose him, despite targeting some big money attacking recruits (Trossard and Fatawu) who are likely to push Cerny down the pecking order in the new season.”

The same report estimates Cerny is earning around £45k a week in Istanbul, meaning Rangers would struggle to complete in terms of wages even if the winger was made available for a loan switch. A transfer for Cerny has therefore been put in the ‘unlikely’ category.

Besiktas sign Arsenal superstar in Cerny’s position

Arsenal confirmed they’ve reached an agreement with Besiktas for the Belgian winger, who helped the club lift the Premier League trophy last season under the stewardship of former Rangers midfielder Mikel Arteta. A club statement read: “We can confirm that we have reached an agreement with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard. With a transfer fee agreed, Leo, 31, has been granted permission to travel to Istanbul to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of his move to the Turkish Super Lig club.”

Besiktas are also reportedly preparing a £12.6m bid for Leicester winger Fatawu as he returns from the World Cup with Ghana. However, West Ham United are also in for the 22-year old as a potential replacement for talisman Jarrod Bowen, who is headed for the exit door.
