Mikel Arteta can spalsh the cash again this summer

Arsenal are starting to emerge in the transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to land a blockbuster summer signing to strengthen his title-winning side.

A familiar face has already arrived back at the Emirates in the shape of centre-back Piero Hincapie, who made his loan move permanent for £34.5million from Bayer Leverkusen. A second, albeit less inspiring signing, saw ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier arrive on a free transfer to play backup to David Raya. But after splashing £250m last summer, the Gunners will certainly be looking to land a marquee signing or two.

Arsenal have been linked with a series of world-renowned midfielders and forwards in recent weeks, with Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes and Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, with a deal for the latter entering a critical stage. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest transfer developments from the Emirates Stadium.

England's World Cup semi-final clash with Argentina on Wednesday evening is set to carry additional importance for Arsenal's decision-makers. Among the players expected to feature is Atletico Madrid striker Alvarez, who has surfaced as one of the Gunners' primary offensive priorities.

Nevertheless, Arsenal may need to exercise patience if they wish to secure the Argentine international – unless the Three Lions emerge victorious in Atalanta. According to Argentine publication La Nacion, Alvarez has no plans to settle his club future until the World Cup reaches its conclusion, with the 26-year-old entirely concentrated on representing his nation.

The report suggests Arsenal will intensify their pursuit once the tournament ends, when Alvarez will be "free to focus fully on his club future". That could present the Gunners with a compressed timeline, given this summer's expanded World Cup doesn't conclude until July 19.

Barcelona reportedly remains Alvarez's favoured destination, though the La Liga champions are battling to finalise a financial arrangement with Atletico Madrid, who reference his enormous €500m (£426m) release clause. Argentine publication Clarin Deportivo states Arsenal are "following every movement" and will position themselves as a credible alternative should Barcelona fail to strike a deal.

Deal confirmed for forward

Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard established himself as a beloved figure amongst the Gunners supporters during last season's championship-winning run, notably netting a vital late winner against West Ham United in May. However, the Belgian is poised to conclude his three-and-a-half-year stint in north London this summer after Arsenal finalised a deal with Besiktas for the forward.

The 31-year-old has travelled to Istanbul and will undergo a medical with the Turkish outfit ahead of a £17m transfer. Trossard leaves having netted 36 goals in 174 outings since arriving from Brighton in January 2023.

His departure is anticipated to make space for Arsenal to bring in a fresh left-wing attacker, with Rogers and Paris Saint-Germain ace Bradley Barcola amongst the names being touted.
