Journalist: Arsenal to open formal talks to sign 25-G/A star, expected to launch bid soon

Arsenal are reportedly set to open formal talks with Aston Villa over a deal to sign Morgan Rogers, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

Since moving to Villa Park from Middlesbrough, the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League.

He showcased his productivity during the 2024/25 campaign, making 27 goal contributions across all competitions. The youngster continued to display promising performances last term, scoring 14 goals and registering 11 assists in 55 appearances in all tournaments.

Rogers helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League and guided them to win the Europa League last campaign.

After proving his worth in club football, the forward has secured his place in England’s World Cup squad, helping his country reach the semi-final.

Now, on Givemesport, Jacobs states that Arsenal are planning to reinforce the frontline this summer and have identified Bradley Barcola and Eli Junior Kroupi as potential options.

However, they have earmarked Rogers as their primary target and are expected to begin formal talks with Aston Villa over the deal.

Rogers to Arsenal

The 23-year-old signed a long-term contract until 2031 last year, and it was initially thought he would be available for around £80m, plus add-ons. However, in the current inflated market, Aston Villa are now seeking around £116m, the same fee Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson.

The journalist claims that Arsenal are prepared to launch a formal proposal soon, and it remains to be seen whether the Villans stay firm on their asking price.

Rogers is a creative midfielder by trait but is also efficient on the left flank. Moreover, he can provide cover on the opposite side if needed.

Following Leandro Trossard’s impending move to Besiktas, Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli as the only option to deploy on the left flank. However, with his existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, his long-term future isn’t secured at the Emirates Stadium.

Rogers is a Premier League proven player and could be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services in this window.
