Perfect timing: Arsenal given dream chance to sign 21-goal Barcelona star

Arsenal have been presented with a huge opportunity to strengthen their attacking department by signing Barcelona forward Ferran Torres this summer.

The Athletic reported that Barcelona are open to selling the 26-year-old this summer because of a unique clause in his contract.

His current deal at the Camp Nou will expire in June 2027.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly reluctant to offer Torres a new deal because doing so would trigger an €8 million (£6.8m) payment to Manchester City.

The La Liga champions signed Torres from Man City in January 2022 in a deal worth €65m.

Arsenal could seriously exploit this situation, as Barcelona have one final opportunity to sell him for a significant fee this summer.

Mikel Arteta needs a versatile attacker

The Gunners have already reached an agreement with Besiktas for the sale of Leandro Trossard. Gabriel Martinelli is also expected to leave this summer.

Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola have emerged as the leading candidates to strengthen the left flank.

Gabriel Jesus is also being tipped to leave after spending much of last season providing cover for Viktor Gyokeres whenever Kai Havertz was unavailable.

That leaves Mikel Arteta searching for another high-quality forward capable of operating across multiple attacking positions.

Torres perfectly fits that profile.

The Spaniard enjoyed the finest goalscoring season of his career last campaign, registering 21 goals and three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

His greatest asset is undoubtedly his versatility, with the ability to play as a centre-forward as well as on either wing.

There are understandable concerns over whether he can consistently cope with the physical intensity of the Premier League.

However, his previous experience at City, combined with the maturity he has developed at Barcelona, suggests he is far better equipped than before to thrive in English football.
