Arsenal have made an initial approach to sign Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis this summer.
In May, the Greece international said he would consider joining Arsenal, Manchester City or Manchester United, when asked about interest.
Last month, we relayed news of the Premier League winners’ concrete interest in the winger. Club Brugge want his sale to break their current record of €37.5m.
On Tuesday, Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium that the Gunners are in contact with Club Brugge.
Arsenal approach backed up
Het Nieuwsblad now back up the Arsenal contact and cover the latest on the 24-year-old.
The Jupiler Pro League side signed Christos Tzolis from Fortuna Düsseldorf for €6m in July 2024 and he’s starred for them.
Tzolis has contributed 43 goals and 45 assists from 108 matches, and 22 goals and 29 assists were from last season.
The attacker’s impressive performances have attracted Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and AS Roma.
These teams are battling for his signature, but the Gunners are the only club to be in talks with Club Brugge.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t converted their interest into an offer.
Huge advantage for Arsenal
Christos Tzolis spent three years at Norwich City between 2021 and 2024, and two were out on loan. He managed three goals and two assists from 30 matches for the Canaries and failed to score or assist in 14 Premier League matches.
Despite his struggles at Norwich City, the player won’t say no to a new opportunity in the Premier League.
In fact, the Greek has a preference to join Arsenal over Roma, Borussia Dortmund and Atlético Madrid. This gives the north London club an advantage.
The Gunners reached an agreement Beşiktaş for Leandro Trossard and Tzolis is one of the candidates to replace him.
Het Nieuwsblad expects the Club Brugge star’s suitors, including Arsenal, to intensify talks in the coming days.
They state: ‘For Tzolis, once a club becomes truly concrete, everything will primarily have to feel right. He does not want to make hasty choices and still feels good at Club Brugge.’
He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €40m. The Belgian club are likely to request a fee around that region.
