Tottenham Hotspur discovers Liverpool stance on Cody Gakpo exit

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Cody Gakpo heading into the business end of the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has consistently maintained that the 27-year-old is one the list at the North London club.

Part of the intrigue around Gakpo’s future stems from his inconsistent 2025/26 season.

The Dutchman remained a useful, versatile attacker capable of playing across the front line, but he did not consistently hit the numbers expected. He registered only 7 league goals and 5 assists across 36 outings.

With Gakpo under contract until 2030, any deal would require a sizeable bid and a major call from Iraola’s new regime.

Now talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has reported that Liverpool do not want to sell Cody Gakpo

“Liverpool do not plan to sell winger Cody Gakpo this summer.

“Gakpo is among Tottenham’s list of transfer targets while several other clubs are also keeping tabs on the Netherlands ace.”

He also explains that Liverpool do not want to reduce their wide options amid the pursuit of Bradley Barcola:

“In fact, Liverpool are looking to add to their wide options, not reduce them.”

“PSG’s Bradley Barcola is their dream target, but the message coming out of the French capital is that he is very much off limits.”

It appears the message from Merseyside is simple. Tottenham can keep watching and preparing bids, but Cody Gakpo remains a Liverpool player unless someone forces their hand with a huge offer.

Meanwhile, with France now out of the World Cup, attention will inevitably turn back to Bradley Barcola’s future and there is a growing sense that any move could accelerate over the coming weeks.

Only at a price in excess of the £116 million Manchester City have just paid for Elliot Anderson would allow PSG to sanction an exit.

Whether the Reds decide to go that big or not remains to be seen.
