Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III joined the Kansas City Chiefs onMarch 9 to lead a revamped offensive backfield.
The franchise signed the former Seattle Seahawks running back to arecord-setting, three-year contract worth more than $43 million. The 25-year-old dynamic rusherled the Seahawks to victory and earned Super Bowl LX MVP honors before entering free agency.
The Chiefs solidified the roster overhaulon March 16 by trading a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to the New York Jets for quarterback Justin Fields. The Jets agreed to pay $7 million of Fields’ $10 million guaranteed salary, while Kansas City covers the remaining $3 million.
During his three-year stint with the Chicago Bears, Fields broke the NFLsingle-game quarterback rushing record with 178 yards. He also became one ofonly three quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in March 2024 before moving to New York the next year.
Fields’ impressive resume establishes him as a high-caliber backup while quarterback Patrick Mahomes recovers from a serious knee injury. While Mahomes has progressed well in his rehabilitation, the team remains cautious. If doctors do not clear him for the season opener in September, the 27-year-old quarterback will likely take the starting role.

Kenneth Walker has a message for new Chiefs QB Justin Fields
The growing chemistry between new teammates Walker and Fields was recently evident on social media. On Tuesday, Fields posted a series of photoson Instagram donning his new red No. 6 Chiefs uniform.
“6,” the five-year veteran wrote in his caption, also referencing his upcoming sixth season in the NFL.
Walker quickly expressed his support by commenting on the post. He had two words for his new teammate.
“My dawg🔥,” the star running back wrote to the new Chiefs quarterback.
The coaching staff focused heavily on Walker and Fields during the Chiefs’ offseason activities to address last year’s inconsistency and lack of explosive plays.
Bothplayers fully participated during the three-day mandatory minicamp in June, which capped the team’s offseason program before high-intensity preparations begin later this month. The Chiefs travel to Missouri Western State University to opentraining camp on July 29.
The duo’s combination of rushing ability and athleticism adds a new dimension to Kansas City’s offense for the 2026 season. Walker’spowerful running style and Fields’ dual-threat ability provide the Chiefs with two dynamic weapons capable of creating significant challenges for opposing defenses.
