Arsenal have not given up hope of signing Argentina star Julian Alvarez despite growing competition for his signature this summer.
According to reports, there have been fresh direct contacts between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid regarding a possible transfer for Julian Alvarez.
Mikel Arteta remains a huge admirer of Alvarez and is determined to bring the World Cup winner to the Emirates Stadium.
The 26-year-old has publicly made it clear that his dream destination is Barcelona.
However, the strained relationship between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona could make that transfer extremely difficult to complete.
Should a move to Catalonia fail to materialise, Alvarez is reportedly open to joining Arsenal instead.
Arsenal could make a strong move for Alvarez
The Argentinian signed for Atletico from Manchester City in the summer of 2024. He has registered 49 goals and 17 assists in 106 appearances across all competitions.
Although he scored only eight goals in La Liga last season, he exploded into life in the UEFA Champions League with 14 goal contributions in just 15 matches.
Atletico are reportedly huge admirers of Viktor Gyokeres, but Arsenal must avoid entertaining any swap proposal involving the Swedish striker.
The Gunners need another elite attacker capable of sharing the goalscoring responsibility alongside Gyokeres rather than replacing him.
With Leandro Trossard closing in on a move to Besiktas and Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli also expected to depart, Arsenal are preparing for a major attacking overhaul.
Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola remain attractive options, but signing Alvarez alongside either of them would instantly elevate both the quality and depth of Arsenal’s frontline.
Arteta wants Arsenal to take the next step and challenge for European glory while keeping themselves at the summit of English top flight.
