Jeremy Monga is one of the most promising young players in England. However, now that the teenager has signed for Manchester City, having beaten the defending Premier League Champions Arsenal to it. Now, all eyes will be on the youngster to see how far he can go in his professional football career.
Man City win the race for Jeremy Monga
As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester City have completed the signing of Monga from Leicester City. The youngster has signed a five-year deal, committing his future to the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031. The deal is worth around £10 million, with additional payments as bonus included.
As reported by ESPN, Arsenal were strongly interested in signing the youngster earlier this summer. However, the Gunners decided not to match Leicester’s asking price, allowing the Citizens to move quickly and secure one of the country’s most exciting young players. The young winger enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Foxes. He played around 30 matches in all competitions during the last campaign. He scored one goal and provided two assists. Across his senior career with Leicester, he made around 37 appearances. He also has represented England at Under-19 level.

Jeremy Monga: A teenager already making history
Monga has already achieved several impressive milestones despite his young age. As reported by Sky Sports, he also became Leicester’s second-youngest player to feature in the competition.
As reported by The Guardian, the winger also became the youngest player to start a match for Leicester and later broke Jude Bellingham’s record to become the Championship’s youngest goalscorer. These achievements quickly made him one of the most highly rated young players in England. He said “When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me.” He also praised the club for giving academy players a clear path into the first team, pointing to players like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly as examples.
Big hopes for the future
The Citizens continue to invest heavily in young talent as they prepare for (a new era under head coach Enzo Maresca.) As reported by The Guardian, Maresca already knows Monga well from their time together at Leicester, which helped the move come together.
The winger now joins a squad filled with top-quality players, meaning regular minutes may not come immediately. Even so, The Sky Blues believe he has the talent to develop into an important player over the next few years. For Leicester, the transfer brings in an important fee after relegation and helps the club manage its finances. For Monga, it is a chance to learn in one of Europe’s best football environments while continuing his development.
Author’s Opinion
Jeremy Monga is still very young, so expectations should stay realistic. The talent is clear, but patience will be important. If he keeps improving and earns regular chances, this move could become one of the smartest signings by any Premier League club this summer.
