Brock Purdy’s Rise Gets Another Vote of Confidence From Someone Who Knows Him Best

Since entering the league through the 2022 draft as the last player selected,Brock Purdy has been going against critics all along his NFL career, continuing to show he deserves to be considered amongst the best players of the league.

This time, one of the few people who know more about him believes that Purdy still has not hit his stride,Xavier Hutchinson recently showed his support for theSan Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback.

Purdy’s professional résumé keeps building up in four seasons in the league. The QB holds a 30-15 career regular-season record as a starter, leading the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII in the 2023 season, and signing an extension worth five years and $265M that established him as the team’s franchise quarterback.

Even with some injury troubles affecting the 2025 season, the belief in Purdy amongst NFL insiders remains unchanged. As Hutchinson demonstrated on Good Morning Football, the 49ers’ QB should be considered amongst the NFL’s top 10 QBs.

“Yeah, I don’t see why not. You have to prove it every single season, every single game, and that’s exactly what he’s done. I’m super excited for him cause I don’t even think this is the best that we’ve seen of him.”

Brock Purdy’s teammate in college, Xavier Hutchinson, was asked if Brock is a Top-10 QB in the NFL:

Hutchinson is not the only one viewing Purdy in that light. In ESPN’s yearly poll of league executives, coaches, and scouts, the 49ers quarterback fell just shy of the top ten list with votes from approximately 30 percent of the ballots.

This has all become critical for Purdy’s game under Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system, where he excels not by throwing a bomb or scrambling for huge plays but rather by anticipation, timing, and movements within the pocket.

For Purdy, the 2026 NFL campaign may prove to be one of his most challenging seasons yet. Entering training camp, the 49ers have several veteran players coming back from injury.

For Hutchinson, though, none of that changes the outlook. Having watched Purdy develop long before the NFL spotlight arrived, he believes the version fans have seen over the last four seasons is only the beginning.
