One of the biggest stories for the New Orleans Saints this offseason was regarding the future of running back Alvin Kamara. He was one of the veterans who was rumored to potentially be a cap casualty, which became a bigger speculation following the signing of free agent running back Travis Etienne Jr. However, we have finally received some concrete information about the future of the five-time Pro Bowl running back. Alvin Kamara restructures deal with the New Orleans Saints for the 2026 season

One of the biggest sagas for the New Orleans Saints has finally been rectified. While on The Set with Terron Armstead, NewOrleans.Football reporter Nick Underhill announced the team are finalizing a restructured contract with running back Alvin Kamara to have him return to the team for the 2026 season.
This seemed to be an inevitable solution as the soon-to-be 31-year-old running back has made it known he wanted to stay with the New Orleans Saints this year. As of this writing, it is unknown what the restructured contract looks like. However, Kamara has shown to be a significant threat in both the running and passing game. He was entering the final year of his two-year, $24.5 million contract, where he had a $10.4 million cap hit for the 2026 season.
Kamara played 11 games last season and recorded 131 carries for 471 yards (3.6 yards per attempt) with one rushing touchdown as well as 33 catches on 39 targets for 186 yards (5.6 yards per reception) without a receiving touchdown. Now, he will be able to be a running back that is not asked to get significant amounts of carries each week and likely will be more productive as a 1-2 punch with Etienne.
New Orleans struggled significantly at putting points on the board in 2025. They were 28th in both rushing yards (94.3) and scoring (18.0). With a revamped rushing attack and a new-look offense with some solid skill position players, it should be able to do better. It is unclear if this is a final season with Alvin Kamara and Cameron Jordan being part of the New Orleans Saints, but this should be a great day for Saints fans.
