Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has mentioned Paris Saint-Germain star Desire Doue as an option for the Reds in the summer transfer window.
The Reds continue to eye up wide options ahead of next season, with Mohamed Salah not yet replaced on the right flank and Victor Munoz the only attacker brought in to date.
While Bradley Barcola has been constantly linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, Warnock has also thrown Doue into the mix in an interview with TEAMtalk:
“It’s an interesting one. Do you go after Bradley Barcola? He predominantly plays on the left, but we know he’s capable of playing on both sides. The great thing about him is his age and, crucially, we already know he’s good enough at the very highest level. He’s played Champions League football, international football and proven himself already.
“I don’t think Liverpool are in a position right now where they can buy another Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane-type project and hope they become elite. I think Liverpool need to buy players who are ready to go and perform immediately.
“For me, I’d look at Barcola or Desire Doue if Liverpool could somehow get either of them. If they can’t, they’ll have to try and unearth another gem and hope he develops into that player.”
Would Desire Doue be a better option than Bradley Barcola?
Doue is a fantastic talent with the ability to light up Anfield, but it is extremely hard to see PSG selling arguably their most talented young player to Liverpool.
The 21-year-old has an enormous future ahead of him, and French football expert Julien Laurens has hailed him in the past, saying: “Doue is so talented, strong mentally and physically. At PSG, they say he’s got rugby players’ legs because the bottom half of his body is so strong.”
Of course, Liverpool would likely love to have Doue, but Barcola feels like the more realistic option, in terms of being a slightly more expendable figure at PSG.
Whether he is the big-money winger solution for the Reds is up for debate, though the Frenchman is at his best on the left wing when a right-sided signing takes precedence for Andoni Iraola.
