Arsenal are now seriously contemplating giving captain Martin Odegaard a contract extension, according to reports.

The Norwegian international has less than two years remaining on his current deal, and there has been some speculation about his future following form and fitness problems over the past couple of seasons.
However, TEAMtalk claim that the Gunners have no intention of offloading Odegaard this summer, and they are making plans to keep him for the long term.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is believed to have had “exploratory discussions” with the 27-year-old’s representatives about signing a new contract.
Odegaard has been praised by his teammates
Speaking back in 2024, Declan Rice made his admiration for his skipper abundantly clear. In an interview with TNT Sports, he said:
“If you look at Tony Adams, Patrick Vieira, like hard-hitting centre-half/midfielders. Martin is just an out-of-this-world No. 10, he’s so special, but he knows what it’s like to play for this club.”
“He was here in the tough times, and now he’s come through that, and he’s arguably one of the best players in the Premier League this season and the last few years.”
“He just makes something happen out of nothing. He’s probably the best trainer; he’s just so elegant. Just everything down to the way he lives his life, how he treats this game as a profession, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

What does this mean for Arsenal’s pursuit of Rogers?
There were assumptions that the club’s pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers could spell the end of Odegaard’s time at the Emirates.
Both are ostensibly no.10s who like to take up the same positions on the pitch. After Eberechi Eze joined the Gunners last summer, and with the likes of Max Dowman also coming through the ranks, manager Mikel Arteta is not exactly short of playmakers.
However, it appears as if Rogers will be targeted to strengthen the left flank, leaving the way clear for Odegaard to compete with Eze for the no.10 spot.
