Liverpool has confirmed Jeremy Jacquet will wear the number five shirt for the club ahead of the new season.
Jacquet completed his move to Anfield earlier this month, joining the Reds from French side Rennes after an $80 million deal was agreed during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been in training with his new side for over a week now, and has had the chance to meet new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola as well as a number of his new teammates, with more set to arrive in due course as the World Cup draws to a close.
Ahead of Liverpool's pre-season tour of the US later this month, the club has now confirmed Jacquet will take on the number five shirt - one of the most coveted numbers for a defender.
He takes on the number previously held by fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konate, who left the club earlier this summer following the expiration of his contract before signing for Real Madrid.
The number was also previously held by the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Daniel Agger and Milan Baros.
Jacquet arrives at Liverpool having emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in France following his time at Rennes. His performances also attracted the attention of Chelsea, with the Reds managing to beat their Premier League rival to the transfer.
His shirt number would appear to indicate that he is in line to make the step up straight into Iraola's regular team, replacing Konate as Virgil van Dijk's center-back partner.
Speaking after signing for the club, Jacquet said: "I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here.
"I am happy, I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here and I am very excited to get started.
It’s a legendary club, and the football philosophy and project really appealed to me. My family and I believe we have made the right choice and we feel really happy here."
Speaking about playing alongside Van Dijk, he added: "Of course, I’m really excited to line up alongside a great player like him. I think he’s up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him.

"I don’t like using the word ‘idol’, not even for the best players I admire. But naturally, he’s a player I look up to. As far as I’m concerned, he’s one of the best centre-backs and if I want to reach the very top I’ve got to absorb as much as I can from him, obviously."
