Jeremy Jacquet shirt number officially confirmed

Jeremy Jacquet’s new shirt number has been officially confirmed by Liverpool.

The Frenchman was among the first group of players back at the AXA as pre-season preparations continue under Andoni Iraola.

Jacquet arrived on Merseyside nursing a shoulder injury he suffered in February – mere days after he agreed a deal with the Anfield club.

But he appears to be through the worst of it ahead of the USA tour. Speaking during his unveiling interview, the 20-year-old said:

“Yes, yes I will be 100% fit in time for next season, for sure.”

“My shoulder is much better now, and as part of my rehab, I’m now back on the grass on my own. The surgeon has given me the go-ahead to start training with the group again, but unfortunately, it was preferred to just hold off on that. And so now, this summer, I’m going to do everything I can to come back here 100% fit.”

Now Liverpool FC have confirmed that Jeremy Jacquet will wear the No.5 shirt ahead of the 2026/27 season kicking off.

He is taking the squad number previously worn by his compatriot Ibrahima Konate, who made the switch to Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

Previous wearers of Liverpool’s No.5 in the Premier League era include Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Agger.

The hope is that Jacquet will be fully fit and firing by the time Liverpool kick-off their season at St James’ Park on 23 August.

Whether Liverpool decide that another centre-back is required remains uncertain, particularly given that neither Jacquet nor Giovani Leoni has any prior Premier League experience.

Leoni, meanwhile, has been putting in the work during pre-season and there is optimism that he could make his return before the end of 2026.
