Alexis Mac Allister has been praised by the Argentinian press after his country's comeback win against England on Wednesday.

Liverpool star Mac Allister and Argentina were facing a semifinal exit at the World Cup when former Everton star Anthony Gordon gave England a second-half lead. Yet late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez completed a remarkable comeback.

Mac Allister now faces a meeting with new Liverpool teammate Victor Munoz and Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday. The Reds midfielder started and finished the victory against England in Atlanta and was lauded by the Argentinian media for his efforts.

TyC Sports gave Mac Allister a 7/10 rating and said: "Like everyone else, he gave his all for every ball and contributed to winning back possession. When Argentina needed the equalizer, he was everywhere, heading the ball, hitting the woodwork.

"Another champion wanting to be champion again."

ESPN and GOAL also awarded Mac Allister a 7/10 rating. "Amid a chaotic midfield battle, Mac Allister was a calm presence, conducting the play and picking his moments to make surging runs into the box," noted ESPN.

GOAL added: "(Mac Allister) came so close to scoring twice, only to hit the post on both occasions. The second time led directly to Argentina’s winner, so he’ll probably be just fine with that."

Elsewhere, Ole and Clarin both gave the Liverpool star an 8/10 rating.

Mac Allister has already won the 2022 World Cup, 2022 Finalissima and 2024 Copa America with Argentina — and he now has a fourth major international title in his sights.

Reaction from Argentina

Speaking after the game, matchwinner Martinez said: "Truly, I don't know what to say. It is very overwhelming.

"I always dreamt of this moment with the national team, since my dad bought me my first pair of boots.

"This for me means more than just a goal, to be in a final... I have my kids here with me; they have helped me to slow down. Just an unforgettable moment, one that we need to enjoy. Today I am a man enjoying life. Enzo scored an amazing goal too.

"I'm calm and assured because this team continues to show what it's made of. They got tired. They had pressed for 60 minutes, and they could not give more.

"We started to push, and we got momentum because we were calmer as we took more control of the ball and got higher up the pitch. In the end, we got the two goals, and three and a half years on, we're in another World Cup final."
