The [Dallas Cowboys](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/dallas-cowboys) entered the offseason determined to fix the league's worst pass defense after allowing 4,276 passing yards last season. New coordinator Christian Parker and several defensive additions have changed expectations, but one rookie selected outside the early rounds could still become part of that turnaround.
Devin Moore enters camp with something to prove
-----------------------------------------------
Dallas strengthened its secondary by hiring Parker, signing safety Jalen Thompson and cornerback Cobie Durant, and drafting Caleb Downs in the first round. Those moves addressed immediate needs, but they also created competition throughout the defensive backfield.
One player drawing less attention is fourth-round pick Devin Moore. At 6-foot-3 and 198 pounds, Moore has the length to match bigger receivers on the boundary. His physical tools fit the type of corner Parker has worked with, giving him a chance to earn snaps if he develops quickly during training camp.
Talent has never been the question. Staying on the field has.
Moore appeared in only 30 games across four seasons at Florida. Shoulder injuries, a back injury, a concussion, and groin surgery repeatedly interrupted his progress and lowered his draft value despite his athletic ability. His medical history remains the biggest obstacle between him and a larger role.
Moore has chosen to confront that concern rather than avoid it. He said the injuries have given him extra motivation as he enters the NFL, and he plans to learn from veteran teammates by studying their preparation throughout the season. His goal is to build habits that help him stay available over a full schedule.
Dallas already expects Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence to contribute as rookies, leaving Moore outside the spotlight. That could work in his favor. If he stays healthy, continues learning Parker's system, and turns his physical traits into consistent play, he has a realistic chance to outperform his draft position and become one of the better values in the Cowboys' rookie class.
