Andreas Schjelderup to Liverpool is becoming one of the biggest transfer stories this summer. The Benfica winger has caught attention after the FIFA World Cup, and fresh reports suggest the Reds are now seriously looking at a move.

Liverpool add Andreas Schjelderup to shortlist

Liverpool continue searching for new attacking options after changes in their forward line this summer. As reported by ESPN, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are all interested in Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup following his impressive performances for Norway at the FIFA World Cup. The 22-year-old’s displays have raised his value and attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

As posted on Liverpool’s official website, the club’s media watch highlighted Schjelderup as one of the wingers being monitored after Liverpool failed to progress in their pursuit of Yan Diomande. The report made it clear that Schjelderup has become a serious alternative target. The Norwegian winger mainly plays on the left but can also operate across the front line. His pace, dribbling and confidence have made him one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers.

Andreas Schjelderup’s stats for this season, as per FOTMOB:

FIFA World Cup 6 1 3

Liga Portugal 28 7 5

Benfica raise asking price for Andreas Schjelderup

Liverpool may now face a bigger challenge if they decide to make an offer. As reported by TEAMtalk, Benfica previously valued Schjelderup at around €40M before the FIFA World Cup. However, after his strong tournament, the Portuguese club have reportedly increased their asking price to around €50M. The report also claims Schjelderup rejected a new contract offer because he wants the chance to move to the Premier League.

The same report says Liverpool have been following the winger for several weeks and remain interested despite winger’s valuation being on the higher side. Competition could make the transfer difficult. Chelsea and Tottenham are also believed to be monitoring the Norway international, meaning in the current situation they are under no pressure to lower the price of their winger.

Transfer decision is yet to come

Liverpool have not made an official bid yet, but interest appears genuine. As reported by BBC Sport, Liverpool are expected to continue their activity in the transfer market while reshaping the squad for the new season. Strengthening the attack remains one of the club’s priorities.

As reported by ESPN, Schjelderup’s growing reputation means more clubs could enter the race if Benfica decide to sell. That could lead to a bidding battle before the transfer window closes. For now, Benfica remain in a strong position because the winger is under contract. Liverpool must now decide whether to meet the reported €50M valuation or continue exploring other options.

The coming weeks will likely decide whether Schjelderup becomes the Reds’ next signing or plays football in Portugal for another season.

Author’s Opinion

Schjelderup looks like a player with huge potential. He is still young but already performs well on big occasions. If Liverpool believe he fits their long-term plans, paying a little extra now could prove to be a smart investment.
