Jalen Hurts has spent most of the offseason answering questions that have little to do with what he has already accomplished. Between national quarterback rankings, criticism of thePhiladelphia Eagles’passing attack and another change on the coaching staff.
Now, another respected NFL voice has weighed in. This time, the concern is not about Hurts’ talent but about whether the offense being built around him actually matches the way he’s played throughout his career.
Greg Cosell Questions Jalen Hurts’ Fit In The Philadelphia Eagles’ New Offensive Scheme

NFL Films analystGreg Cosell shared his thoughts during an appearance on the Ross Tucker Podcast on July 16. While stopping short of saying Hurts can’t succeed, Cosell believes that the Eagles are asking their QB to operate in a style that is very different from what has made him successful dating back to college.
“This is NOT the way in which he’s played.”
“I’m not going to sit here and say as a veteran quarterback that he CAN’T do it, but it’s TOTALLY different from the way in which he’s played over his career, even going back to college.”

Cosell’s comments come as the Eagles prepare for another offensive transition under first-year coordinator Sean Mannion.
The timing is notable because the 27-year-old has already become one of the NFL’s biggest talking points this summer. Earlier this week, ESPN’s annual survey of league executives, coaches and scouts ranked him outside the top 15 quarterbacks entering the 2026 season.
Those evaluations have frustrated plenty of Eagles fans, especially considering Hurts’ résumé. He has led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl title, consistently delivered in the postseason, and navigated multiple offensive coordinator changes during his career.
Cosell’s breakdown is not necessarily a prediction that the experiment will fail. Instead, it is a reminder that scheme changes often matter just as much as talent.
Training camp should provide the first real glimpse of what Mannion’s offense looks like with Hurts under center. Whether the new system unlocks another level of his game or forces him away from his strengths which could end up defining both Philadelphia’s offense and one of the NFL’s biggest storylines this season.
