Jaxson Dart has spent the offseason in the spotlight for more than one reason. Between public appearances, questions about theNew York Giants’ offense, and growing expectations entering Year 2.
The conversation around Dart, however, is not just about hype but about development. And according to one of football’s most respected film analysts,Greg Cosell the next step in his growth has little to do with arm talent and everything to do with how quickly he processes what unfolds before him.

Cosell offered his evaluation of Dart during an appearance on the Ross Tucker Podcast, with clips shared on X on July 16. While acknowledging the QB encouraging rookie campaign, Cosell pointed to one area that must improve before Dart can take another leap with the Giants.
Cosell described Dart’s first NFL season as a solid foundation but stressed that his decision-making from the pocket remains the biggest checkpoint heading into Year 2.

His assessment lines up with comments Dart has already made this offseason. Earlier this year, the Giants QB admitted that improving his progressions inside the pocket has been one of his biggest offseason priorities.
The organization is also entering a new offensive era with coordinator Matt Nagy, senior offensive assistant Greg Roman, and quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan helping shape the system around their young signal-caller.
His comments also hold more credibility considering that he has just been praising another young quarterback recently. As he was talking about the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, Shane Steichen, he attributed the pass concepts taught by Steichen for developing decision-making skills in Daniel Jones before his Achilles injury last year. According to Cosell, effective coaching helps to enhance processing skills and enables the quarterback to release the ball on time.
For the 23-year-old, that is exactly the challenge waiting in Year 2.
