Arsenal missed out on Karim Adeyemi, as per recent news. The German winger is ready to join Barcelona by next season. The Spanish club have submitted an official bid.
Adeyemi to join Barcelona instead of Arsenal
Adeyemi will not join Arsenal for the upcoming season. As reported by CaughtOffside, the 24-year-old winger has decided to join Barca instead. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Adeyemi will neither stay at Borussia Dortmund nor join the Gunners next year. Barcelona officially submitted a bid of €22 million in order to secure the German winger for the next season.
Adeyemi joined Dortmund in 2022. Before that, the winger played for Red Bull Salzburg between 2018 and 2022. In between, he was also loaned out to Liefering from 2018 to 2020 under a loan spell.

Why did Adeyemi choose Barcelona instead of Arsenal?
Adeyemi would’ve been a great fit in the forward lineup at the North London club next year. Then how did the North London club miss out on the German winger? That is because even though the Gunners were interested in Adeyemi, he wasn’t their top priority for the 2026-27 season. In fact, Arsenal are pursuing wingers like Christos Tzolis, Morgan Rogers and Anthony Gordon for the upcoming season. Apart from the above, even Bradley Barcola is on their wishlist.
Adeyemi is well known for his pace, as well as his aggressive skills. After winning the Premier League this year, Arsenal under team manager Mikel Arteta are working on maintaining a strong, aggressive lineup for the next year.With Adeyemi, the Gunners would have got a great winger for the upcoming season. However, they were probably not very aggressive in their pursuit. Apart from Arsenal and Barcelona, Manchester United also expressed their interest in Adeyemi. Barca eventually won the race to secure the winger for the next season.
What’s next for Karim Adeyemi?
After rejecting Arsenal as well as Manchester United for Barcelona, Adeyemi is preparing for the next **football**season. He doesn’t have too much to worry about his disciplinary concerns. However, he needs to improve on his fitness concerns.
Adeyemi sustained multiple injuries last year. He is recovering from a muscle injury which he received in mid-April this year. He also sustained an ankle injury in February 2026. This was probably one of the reasons why he wasn’t considered for the final squad for Germany ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Germany made it to the knockout stage after 12 years. However, they lost to Paraguay 4-3 on penalties.
If Adeyemi is to make it big at the world stage, he needs to be in top form. Barcelona won La Liga last year. But the team had many injury concerns. Players like Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Andreas Christensen had to deal with injuries among others. Adeyemi needs to avoid this situation, especially if he joins the team for the 2026-27 season.
Arsenal want to maintain the winning momentum. That’s why the team is looking out for aggressive players. If Adeyemi had joined the team next year, the team would have had a solid chance at retaining the Premier League title. However, Barca will have the last laugh. It would be interesting to see how Adeyemi performs at Camp Nou next year.
