Tottenham have been planning to submit a bid for Premier League forward.
Tottenham Hotspur have been the busiest Premier League club in terms of incomings, with six new arrivals already finalised for Roberto De Zerbi in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Martin Dubravka, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
Spurs have already spent more than £235m in transfer fees, but they aren’t finished yet. Roberto De Zerbi wants at least a couple of new attackers to bolster his forward line for the 2026/27 season. French sensation Eli Junior Kroupi is among De Zerbi’s primary targets, but Bournemouth are unlikely to let him leave after one season unless a premium is paid. The Lilywhites have also been interested in Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool decide on Cody Gakpo amid Tottenham interest
Cody Gakpo had a disappointing 2025-26 season at Liverpool, netting only nine times in 52 matches. He wasn’t the only forward whose productivity dipped during the Reds’ poor defence of their Premier League crown. But he managed to rebuild his stock at the World Cup, registering three goals and an assist before the Netherlands’ shock last-32 exit to Morocco.
Since Arne Slot was shown the door at the end of last season and replaced by Andoni Iraola as the new head coach, Gakpo’s future has been up in the air. The 27-year-old has been anticipated to leave Anfield this summer, with Spurs showing the most interest. With the player soon set to return to the club, the Reds have made a decision on his future.
According to talkSPORT’s Transfer Notebook, Liverpool will not be letting Gakpo leave for Tottenham. Despite the forward’s form significantly dipping last season, they do not have any plans to sell him. In fact, the Merseyside outfit are looking to add to their wide options, not weaken them.

Gakpo has established himself as a key attacking option for Liverpool since his move from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, offering pace, dynamism, versatility across the frontline and genuine goal-scoring output. The Dutchman’s performances in the Premier League has put him on the radar of Tottenham, who were reportedly planning to submit a bid to Liverpool.
However, the Reds’ decision not to part ways with the 27-year-old should come as a big blow for Tottenham. The Merseysiders have been rumoured to consider selling Gakpo if a £70m bid is tabled, but the latest update suggests he is set to remain and challenge for a place in the first XI under Iraola.
This should now prompt the Spurs chiefs to shift their focus elsewhere to boost their attacking options for the 2026/27 campaign.
