The summer transfer window is in full swing, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all working on major deals as the World Cup approaches its conclusion.
Arsenal have renewed their interest in Julian Alvarez and remain keen on adding both Morgan Rogers and Bruno Guimaraes to their squad.
Alvarez is eager to join Barcelona, who saw a €100million offer rejected this summer. Real Madrid have also explored a move for the Argentina international, with their €150million bid turned down.
However, Atletico Madrid would reportedly prefer to sell Alvarez to Arsenal rather than strengthen a direct rival in Spain. The striker is set to feature in his second consecutive World Cup final after Argentina defeated England.
Despite the speculation, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted that Alvarez will remain at the club next season.
Enrique Cerezo said: “Joan Laporta is a good friend and he already knows where Julian Alvarez is going to play next season. Let me insist: Julián is our player and will be our player next season”.
He added: “In this life, we all make mistakes, everything can be forgiven. I insist that he is a player of Atlético de Madrid.”
Alvarez is set to go on holiday once Argentina’s World Cup campaign comes to an end. The forward will then return to pre-season training with Atletico Madrid, where talks with the club’s hierarchy over his future are expected to take place.
Despite continued transfer speculation linking him with Arsenal and other European giants, Alvarez’s next steps are likely to become clearer once he reports back for club duty.
Last month, Julian Alvarez revealed his desire to leave Atletico Madrid in order to “fulfil his dream”. “I spoke with the people at [Atletico] I needed to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream.
“It’s not the time to talk about this, but I also can’t hide it. I try to be an honest person.” The Argentina international joined Atletico from Manchester City for £81.5million in the summer of 2024 and has gone on to score 49 goals in 106 appearances, while providing 17 assists, for Diego Simeone’s side.
After netting 17 goals in his first La Liga season, Alvarez saw his league tally drop to eight goals during the 2025-26 campaign.
However, he continued to impress in the Champions League, scoring 10 goals as Atletico reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Arsenal.
