Pistons earn massive Jalen Duren news amid free agency standoff

After the Caris LeVert trade, both Jalen Duren and the Pistons have taken a positive direction in terms of potentially reaching a much-awaited deal.

Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are reportedly gaining positive traction away from their embattled free agency situation.

In his latest Bleacher Report update, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that both sides have taken a significant step since the Pistons cleared key cap space via the Caris LeVert trade, which could be allotted to Duren's next contract.

"There's been momentum and positive direction between Duren and the Pistons. And ever since that Caris LeVert trade for Taurean Prince and Gary Harris, that opened up the cap space for Detroit to give Jalen Duren his 25% max contract that he is looking for," Fischer claimed.

"I do think they're getting close. That's my latest understanding of that situation. I don't know exactly how close or when to expect it, but definitely closer than when they were before that trade. And I think that trade was indicative of some positive movement between Detroit and Jalen Duren."

Pistons, Jalen Duren take positive direction amid free agency standoff

The Detroit Pistons traded Caris LeVert and two future second-round draft picks to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for veterans Taurean Prince and Gary Harris as part of a massive six-team deal that also involved the Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, and LA Clippers.

By sending LeVert's $14.8 million expiring contract, the Pistons cleared roughly $7.2 million in immediate cap savings thanks to the Bucks.

Jalen Duren's restricted free agency with the Pistons has generated a lot of noise in this year's offseason. And while many groundbreaking deals have already happened, the disgruntled big man has yet to seize his desired contract.

The All-Star center notably met with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings. But with the Lakers already landing Walker Kessler and the Pistons reportedly uninterested in Domantas Sabonis in a potential sign-and-trade with the Kings, Duren appears to have no choice but to consider a return to Detroit.
