Gamecocks in the NBA Summer League

The NBA Summer Leagues are nearing the end and South Carolina has four former players who are on rosters - three rookies off of last year's team and another in his second year in the league.

Collin Murray-Boyles, who averaged 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds last season as a rookie for Toronto, was initially listed on the roster but didn't see any action. Guard Meechie Johnson is signed with the Miami Heat, guard Kobe Knox is with the Atlanta Hawks and guard Mike Sharavjamts is with the Orlando Magic.

The NBA Summer League, as it spends the better part of a week in Las Vegas, will have a round of consolation games as well as playoffs that run from July 17-19.

Meechie Johnson (Miami Heat)

Johnson did not play in either of the Heat's first two summer league games but did see a bit over 16 minutes of action in the team's third game. He was 2-for-3 from the floor for five points with one of those two makes being a three-pointer. But he also had a pair of rebounds and six assists. He had the highest plus/minus on the team at plus-18 in his team's win over Golden State.

When the team made it to Las Vegas, he had a rebound, assist and steal in 1:52 played in the team's first game, but really struggled in the team's second game. In just under 11 minutes, he had a team worst minus-21 in the plus/minus column going 1-for-4 from the field with two points, one rebound and two turnovers in his team's five-point loss to Orlando. He didn't play in the next game. Johnson did play 9:07 in the final group phase game and made the only shot he took, scoring two points with two rebounds and a turnover.

Kobe Knox (Atlanta Hawks)

Kobe Knox featured in one of three games in Salt Lake City for the Atlanta Hawks and played 12 minutes. He connected on 3-of-4 shots for six points with one rebound and one assist against the Memphis Grizzlies.

After not playing in the first two games in Las Vegas, he played 12:31 against the Boston Celtics on July 13 and made the only three-pointer he took while adding three rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Knox played 16:36 in the final game of group play and had the best plus/minus of any player on the roster at minus-1 in a 32-point blowout loss. He was 1-for-5 from the field scoring two points, missed all three free throws but did have three rebounds and a block.

Collin Murray-Boyles was put on the Raptors' summer league roster but ended up not playing at any point. He was listed as an unused player in the first two games in Las Vegas, but ended up not suiting up for the third game and not playing in the final one of the summer.

Mike Sharavjamts (Orlando Magic)

The Orlando Magic didn't play any games prior to Las Vegas and guard Mike Sharavjamts didn't play in any of the four games on what was a very full, 20-man roster. Sharavjamts is the first player from Mongolia to even sign to play on an NBA Summer League team. There was an interesting article quoting him on the GMA Network, which provides coverage of Philippine news.
