Cardiff City starlet Axel Donczew is the subject of interest from Premier League champions Arsenal, according to reporter Sam Dean.
Cardiff City are preparing for life back in the Championship after a hugely successful first season under Brian Barry-Murphy. The Irishman won promotion at the first attempt, and also has shown his ability to develop young players and had faith in the clubs academy products.
One of which was 16-year-old Axel Donczew, and he has now caught the attention of the Premier League champions, according to reporter Sam Dean. Arsenal are showing a strong interest in the young forward.
The Gooners are considering a move to bring in the 16-year-old as part of their academy setup. He has made two appearances for the Cardiff City first-team, both coming in cup competitions.
He came to prominence in October 2025 when he made his senior debut as a substitute in an EFL Trophy match against Newport County at the age of 15 years and 234 days, becoming Cardiff City’s youngest-ever player.

The Verdict: Axel Donczew may be better off staying at Cardiff City
Cardiff City could have easily abandoned their youth focus after earning promotion. However, that does not appear to be the case.
The Bluebirds are currently in pursuit of a major transfer that would see them spend around £7m on young midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl. Spending that money would be a huge risk for Cardiff City, but also a big commitment to developing youth.
Early indications are that nurturing young talent will continue to be at the heart of Cardiff’s strategy as they prepare for life back in the Championship. With a boss like Barry-Murphy, that is likely a good move by the Bluebirds.
Having already shown faith in Donczew last season, that could play a factor in the deceiding of his future. Cardiff City may be the perfect place for him to continue his development, instead of moving on to play further academy football.
