Paris Basketball’s search for a new head coach continues after NBA veteran Jay Triano declined an offer to join the Portland Trail Blazers. The French club also missed out on candidates Dave Joerger and Guillaume Vizade, following the departure of former coach Julius Thomas.
While earlier reports said that Paris Basketball missed out on two coaching candidates, a new report reveals another potential head coach that was pursued by the French club, but ultimately decided to stay in the NBA.
According to Marc Stein, Paris failed to lure former Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns head coach, Jay Triano, who instead has committed to join the Portland Trail Blazers as the top assistant under new head coach Micah Nori.
Triano has served as an assistant for the Blazers, Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, and Dallas Mavericks, with tenures as both assistant and head coach on the Raptors and Suns.
The 67-year-old has also been the head coach of the national team for his native Canada.
Paris' previous recruitment attempts
According to BasketNews sources, the French club showed strong interest in former NBA head coach Dave Joerger. However, the 52-year-old coach is leaning toward staying in the NBA as an assistant rather than taking a head coaching role in Europe.
Joerger has recently interviewed with the Denver Nuggets as he explores opportunities to join an NBA coaching staff, and, according to Stein, Denver is seen as an increasingly likely landing spot for him.
According to BasketNews sources, Paris Basketball also expressed significant interest in Le Mans head coach Guillaume Vizade.

However, the highly regarded French coach is expected to remain with Sarthe Basket Le Mans, leaving Paris to continue its search for a new leader after Julius Thomas left the club.
