Arsenal Women confirm signing of young goalkeeper Isabella Damm

Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Danish goalkeeper Isabella Damm from Brondby IF. Damm trained with Arsenal at the beginning of last season and have kept tabs on her ever since. She will wear the number 40 shirt vacated by Naomi Williams.

Damm will buttress Arsenal’s goalkeeper group after the departure of Naomi Williams during the summer, as well as loan goalkeeper Bara Votikova. Damm is also a Denmark youth international and has gained experience at both Under-17 and Under-19 levels.

She told Arsenal.com, “I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal and I can’t wait to get started. Arsenal is a great club and I’m excited to develop as a player and as a person here, and help the club achieve more success. I’ve had the experience of training here before and I know the environment here is the right one for me to progress.”

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re really pleased to bring Isabella to the club. She’s a player we’ve been monitoring for some time and we believe she’s one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe in her age group. We’re looking forward to seeing her grow and develop within our goalkeeping set-up here at Arsenal.”

Head Coach Renée Slegers added: “Isabella is an exciting young goalkeeper with a strong foundation to build on. Her technical ability, composure and bravery are already clear, and she has a high ceiling for growth and progression. Along with our goalkeeping coaches and wider staff, we’ll support her development as she starts her journey here at Arsenal.”
