Dominik Szoboszlai was being lined up as a “top, top, top target” by a “top, top, top club” for 2027 before he agreed to extend his contract with Liverpool.
Szoboszlai is believed to have now put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with Liverpool which will make him one of the club’s top earners.
With a formal announcement imminent, the No. 8 has provided a major boost as the Reds tie up one of their best and most important players for the long term.
According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s agreement comes after major interest from a “top, top, top club.”
The expectation is that this would have been Real Madrid, who were likely to have waited until Szoboszlai entered the final year of his previous deal in 2027, with the midfielder having already made clear his admiration.
“If Liverpool were not going to extend the contract in a couple of weeks or months, for 2027 he was going to be a top, top, top target for a top, top, top club,” Romano claimed on YouTube.
“So there were already movements from clubs, trying to understand if he was going to sign a new contract at Liverpool or not.
“Liverpool made a very good move by getting a new deal done with Szoboszlai.”

Following his £60 million move from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai was widely reported to be earning around £120,000 a week.
This was viewed as an outstanding piece of business for Liverpool, who had pursued Mason Mount as an alternative only to be deterred by the finances involved in a deal – including £250,000-a-week salary demands.
Given his rise to prominence in the three years since his switch to Anfield, it stands to reason that Szoboszlai will now be among Liverpool’s very top earners.
Liverpool freed up a significant chunk of their wage bill with the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, with Salah alone reported to be earning up to £480,000 a week including bonuses.

It is unlikely Szoboszlai will reach those heights yet, but it is safe to assume that he could bring in closer to the £300,000-a-week mark.
The Hungarian’s salary may emerge in reports following any official announcement over the new deal, but from a fans’ perspective, the most important factor is his commitment to 2031.
While it may not rule out a transfer in the future, not least if Real Madrid position themselves as high-spending suitors, it preserves Szoboszlai’s value and allows him to carry on his trajectory towards world-class level at Anfield.
