Tottenham are set to push for the signing of Manchester City winger.
It is a crucial summer for Tottenham Hotspur, as Roberto De Zerbi is rebuilding the squad to get them back into challenging for the Champions League spots. The process began with defensive signings, as Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi all joined on free transfers, while £52million was also spent on Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The north Londoners then turned their attention to central midfield, breaking the transfer record twice by signing Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. Roberto De Zerbi is now in the hunt for attacking reinforcements, hoping to bring at least a winger and No.9. Several attackers have been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including the likes of Cody Gakpo, Eli Junior Kroupi and Antonio Nusa.
Savinho, though, has been Tottenham’s primary target to bolster the wide areas. Spurs wanted Savinho last summer, but Manchester City blocked a move. They have been in talks with Manchester City again for weeks, hoping to find an agreement for the winger.
Tottenham set to accelerate move for Savinho
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have now decided to up the ante in their pursuit of Savinho. The Brazilian has already agreed to join the Lilywhites as he wants to play under De Zerbi.
The 22-year-old endured another season of limited game time at Manchester City. A combination of intense internal competition and injury problems restricted him to only 24 Premier League appearances. Spurs are well-placed to hand the winger a prominent role than he has enjoyed at the Etihad Stadium, and the opportunity to work with De Zerbi is believed to be appealing to him.
Enzo Maresca took the reins at Man City earlier this month, and it remains to be seen if he views the Brazilian international as part of his plans. But with Pep Guardiola gone, it’s believed that one of the biggest obstacles for the deal last year has now been eliminated. The report adds that the Sky Blues are looking for £60m to let Savinho depart, but the Tottenham chiefs are hoping to negotiate the price down.
It is now up to Spurs to agree a fee with City and bring Savinho to N17. The South American’s pace, energy, unpredictability, dribbling and ability to impress on both wings are qualities that the Lilywhites could do with. He missed out on a place in the Brazil squad for the World Cup and will be desperate to force his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at the international stage.
Savinho rumours have been constantly going on for the last few months, but the Spurs bosses are now prepared to try to get a deal over the line.
