Arsenal may have to lower expectations if they want to move Gabriel Jesus this summer.
The Brazilian’s future has been one of the most persistent stories surrounding the Gunners in recent weeks.
AC Milan, Juventus and Atlético Madrid have all been linked with the striker. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus himself has repeatedly spoken about his long-term dream of returning to his former club Palmeiras.
More recently, though, reports from Brazil suggested his immediate priority remains staying in Europe. Preferably, he wants to stay in England before eventually heading back to South America.
Now, journalist Jorge Nicola has added another piece to the puzzle.
Milan trying to push Arsenal’s price down
According to Nicola, Arsenal have set an asking price of £20m (€23m) for Gabriel Jesus. The player has just one year remaining on his contract.
That figure is lower than the€30m (£26m) valuation reported elsewhere in Brazil recently. However, it remains enough for Milan to try negotiating.
Nicola says the Rossoneri are currently the strongest contenders for Gabriel Jesus. They are attempting to reach an agreement with Arsenal for a fee below the club’s valuation.
Juventus and Atlético Madrid are also said to have made enquiries. We have covered their interest a few times. However, neither club has progressed to a formal offer at this stage.
The report also claims Arsenal are not actively looking to sell the striker, despite putting a price on a potential deal.
Homecoming will have to wait
Perhaps the most interesting update concerns Gabriel Jesus’ own plans. Nicola claims Palmeiras would actually have the financial capacity to match Arsenal’s asking price. But that is not currently the issue.
Instead, the striker reportedly intends to remain in Europe for another two or three years before returning to Palmeiras. There, he hopes to spend the final years of his career.
For now, Milan appear to be leading the chase. This could change if Arsenal and Gabriel Jesus do decide that this summer is the right time to part ways.
Whether the Italian club can persuade Arsenal to lower their £20m (€23m) valuation could now become one of the key talking points of the transfer saga.
