Dominik Szoboszlai has officially put pen to paper on a new long-term Liverpool contract, with the Hungarian’s deal announced after the start of pre-season.
Szoboszlai has returned from his summer break with a renewed vitality and is set to maintain his key status under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
That comes with the 25-year-old signing a new five-year contract with Liverpool which ties him to Anfield until 2031.
His previous terms were set to expire in 2028 and an agreement was struck earlier this month after lengthy talks with representative Matyas Esterhazy.
The midfielder is among the candidates to take over as Liverpool’s vice-captain and this new deal serves to highlight his ongoing commitment.
Dominik Szoboszlai: “I want to set the example”
“There’s always more to come. I’m never happy,” Szoboszlai told the club’s official website.
“No, I’m happy with myself but I think I can do even better. I think that’s why I’m sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I’m thinking the same now.
“I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.
“When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn’t change for a little moment either. It stayed the same: I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let’s say the Champions League.
“I’m ready to go for it.”

Szoboszlai would not have been short of suitors had been allowed to enter the final two years of his terms, but he views Anfield as the ideal platform to continue his careeer.
Last season saw him become the first Liverpool midfielder since Steven Gerrard to score and assist 10 or more goals in a single campaign, having scored 13 and assisted 12 in 53 games in all competitions.
No player had a hand in more goals for the Reds in 2025/26, with Hugo Ekitike (17 goals, six assists) closest, while only Virgil van Dijk (4,941) clocked more minutes on the pitch than Szoboszlai (4,736).
That cemented him as one of the most important players in the squad and, having picked up the Player of the Season award, that is set to continue under Iraola.

As one of the first players to report back for pre-season at the AXA Training Centre, Szoboszlai has already met with Iraola and been put through rigorous fitness tests ahead of Liverpool’s tour of the United States.
This means he should head into the new Premier League campaign in peak fitness, having missed the World Cup after Hungary failed to qualify.
Szoboszlai joins Ryan Gravenberch in signing an extended deal with Liverpool this year, with Rio Ngumoha among those set to follow in the coming weeks.
