Liverpool fans want to see Dominik Szoboszlai appointed the club's next captain after he signed a new long-term contract.
Szoboszlai, 25, has agreed to stay on Merseyside until June 2031, ending speculation about his future. The Hungarian midfielder's willingness to remain at Anfield is a huge boost after some recent exits. This time last year, Trent Alexander-Arnold completed a transfer to Real Madrid after running down his Liverpool contract.
And Ibrahima Konate recently completed a free transfer to the same Spanish club after failing to agree on a new deal at Anfield. Szoboszlai's decision to remain part of Andoni Iraola's squad suggests that he's poised for a leadership role.
Iraola, who recently replaced Arne Slot as Liverpool's head coach, needs to appoint a new vice-captain following Andy Robertson's exit. Szoboszlai is the favorite to succeed Robertson, and the midfielder may inherit the full captaincy in the near future.
That's because the current skipper, Virgil van Dijk, has just entered the final year of his contract and celebrated his 35th birthday. Van Dijk is expected to fulfill his contract and may even sign a new deal at Anfield, but he will eventually need to hand over the armband.
Liverpool.com asked its readers on WhatsApp whether Szoboszlai should be the club's next captain, and they voted yes. At the time of publication, 93 percent of respondents voted in favor of Szoboszlai taking the armband, following nearly 2,000 votes.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Szoboszlai said: "It’s maybe my biggest day.
"There are a couple in front of it – probably when I signed for Liverpool, the first one, and when I got my baby, of course. But in my football career, I can say this is in the top three.
"Very happy. Can’t wait to go again and again and again. I’m just happy to be here, as I said many times."
Szoboszlai is Liverpool's reigning Men's Player of the Season after impressing during a difficult 2025/26 campaign for the Reds, which saw them finish fifth in the Premier League.
He has told Liverpool fans "there's always more to come" after signing his new contract.

"I’m never happy," added Szoboszlai. "No, I'm happy with myself, but I think I can do even better. I think that’s why I’m sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I’m thinking the same now.
"I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.
"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn’t change for a little moment either. It stayed the same: I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also, let’s say, the Champions League. I’m ready to go for it."
