A Liverpool XI will host local non-league side Vauxhall Motors at the Reds’ AXA Training Centre on Saturday.
The eighth-tier side from the Wirral announced the fixture on Friday afternoon, to be played against ‘A Liverpool XI’ – it isn’t clear whether that will feature some first-team players or, more likely, be made up predominantly of under-21s players who returned a week earlier.
Fifteen first-team players returned to training this week, but the likes of Harvey Elliott and Jeremy Jacquet returned early alongside the under-21s the week before.
The match, which will take place behind closed doors, will give new head coach Andoni Iraola his first look at some of his players in match conditions.

Alongside Elliott and Jacquet, the likes of Armin Pecsi, James McConnell, new centre-back signing Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mor Talla Ndiaye, Josh Sonni-Lambie, Josh Abe, Kaide Gordon, Calvin Ramsay, Lewis Koumas, Calum Scanlon, Tommy Pilling, Luke Chambers, Kieran Morrison and Will Wright should be involved.
Liverpool’s first-team squad then fly to Chicago on Monday, where they’ll be based for a fortnight in the US, facing Leeds in Nashville, Wrexham in New York, and Sunderland in Chicago.
They then host Monaco and Como on consecutive weekends in August ahead of the season opener at Newcastle.
