Konstantinos Mavropanos is set for a surprise transfer move this summer. As per recent news, the Greek centre-back aims to return to Arsenal.
Mavropanos to return to the Gunners?
The 28-year-old Mavropanos is back on Arsenal’s wishlist. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the Gunners are aiming to bring back Mavropanos for the next season. Apart from the Gunners, clubs like Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund are also seeking out the Greek center-back for the next season.
Mavropanos joined **Arsenal**in 2018. He played for the club till 2022. He played for the North London club in eight matches overall. In between, he also played for Nurnberg and VfB Stuttgart under different loan spells from 2020 to 2022. After that, he joined VfB Stuttgart. In 2023, West Ham United signed him for a total amount of £21 million.
Mavropanos’ stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Duels Won Tackles Interceptions
Premier League 31 3 0 134 40 49
FA Cup 3 0 0 17 4 1
EFL Cup 1 0 0 6 — 4
Will Mavropanos be a good fit at Arsenal?
Mavropanos is a brilliant choice for Arsenal. He can add depth to the team’s defensive lineup. The Gunners won back the Premier League title after a dream run last year. Naturally, they want to maintain the winning momentum in the next season.
Apart from Mavropanos, the Gunners are also looking out for other defenders for the 2026-27 season. Some of the top names include players like Oscar Mingueza, Jorrel Hato, Ezri Konsa, and Jacobo Ramon among others. Even PSG defender Emmanuel Mbemba is among the list of probables. While there are plenty of centre-backs in the North London club, Mavropanos is different. This is because he has a formidable aerial dominance in penalty boxes. Apart from that, he is also great in one-on-one defending. That’s something not many centre-backs can boast of.
Mavropanos played well for West Ham United last year. However, that was not enough to save the Hammers from relegation. They finished in 18th place in the 2025-26 League table. The Hammers will now play in the second-tier EFL Championship for the next season. That is also one of the probable reasons why the Greek defender is reconsidering a possible return to the North London club.
Future Gameplan for Konstantinos Mavropanos?
Mavropanos is currently recovering from a neck injury sustained in January 2026. He sustained the injury during a match against the Queens Park Rangers at the FA Cup. The injury was so severe that he had to be lifted off the ground on a stretcher. Apart from that, the Greek center-back also sustained a torn thigh muscle injury in October 2025. If he wants to make it big in club **football**next year, he needs to work on his fitness issues.
Meanwhile, Arsenal aim to retain the Premier League title for the 2026-27 season. Since the 2023-24 season, no club has managed to retain their title. However, Mikel Arteta would want to rewrite this trend as the team manager. Under his leadership, the Gunners reached the finals of almost every major European football tournament, including the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. He knows that he cannot afford to be complacent.
Mavropanos has been working well on the defensive front. Even though West Ham United didn’t benefit from his individual performance, he gave his best. The Greek centre-back certainly deserves more. That’s why the Gunners should make a strong move for him. It won’t be that easy to acquire Konstantinos Mavropanos. However, he has a better chance for growth if he rejoins Arsenal for the next season.
