Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Levi Wallace has retired from the NFL. Wallace shared the news Friday afternoon, wrapping up an eight-year NFL career.
“Walk-on. Undrafted. 8 years. Retired. Not bad,” he captioned the video showing his various NFL stops, including two seasons in Pittsburgh.
His post received well-wishes from former Steelers’ teammates like DL Tyson Alualu and EDGE Alex Highsmith.
Wallace spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Pittsburgh. He started 18 games over that span and made a combined 86 tackles with six interceptions. In 2022, he set a single-season best with four interceptions to pair with 13 pass breakups. During that season, Steelers’ doctors diagnosed Wallace with Bell’s palsy, a neurological condition that temporarily left half his face frozen before a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Undrafted out of Alabama, Wallace signed with the Buffalo Bills. He climbed the ladder and made the roster to become a three-year starter from 2019 through 2021. Pittsburgh signed him a two-year, $8 million deal ahead of the 2022 season.
In 2024, Wallace signed with the Denver Broncos. He appeared in 13 games, starting two, and recorded 28 tackles and two pass breakups. Jacksonville signed him last August but he was injured a week later and released well ahead of final cutdowns.
Playing for Nick Saban in college, Wallace was part of the Crimson Tide’s championship 2017 squad. Wallace led the team with 15 pass breakups and picked off three passes as Alabama’s defense didn’t allow more than 27 points in a game all season and gave up more than 20 just four times.
For his NFL career, Wallace appeared in 96 games with 72 starts. He tallied 333 tackles (seven for a loss) with 56 pass breakups and 12 interceptions.
Wallace is one of several former Steelers to retire this offseason. Quarterback Russell Wilson, wide receiver Adam Thielen, cornerback Darius Slay, wide receivers Robert Woods and Miles Boykin, and offensive linemen Zach Banner and John Leglue hung up their cleats earlier this year. Wide receiver Lance McCutcheon briefly retired but unretired to sign with the Tennessee Titans.
