Liverpool have renewed Dominik Szoboszlai’s contract in a massive boost to the long-term success of the Andoni Iraola project.
News broke on Thursday that an agreement had been reached in principle with the Hungarian. Supporters online reacted with glee, but the general expectation was that it would still be at least a few days until it was made officia, however, reports claimed this morning that he had put pen to paper on a new deal.
According to widespread reports from trusted outlets and journalists, Szoboszlai has signed a new five-year deal which will see him committed to the club until 2031. He will be 30 when the new contract expires.

A report from the Liverpool ECHO‘s Ian Doyle and Paul Gorst reads: “The Reds opened talks with Szoboszlai’s representatives earlier this year as they aimed to thrash out an extended deal for the midfielder and reward him for his progress since arriving from RB Leipzig for £60million three years ago.
“Negotiations resumed a few weeks ago between the two parties and Szoboszlai, who had two years remaining on his deal, has now put pen to paper on an improved five-year contract.”

In the last several years, Liverpool have been plagued by Real Madrid both on and off the pitch. The Reds were beaten in two separate Champions League finals three years apart, and have also seen the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate make free agent moves to the Spanish capital.
Their interest in Szoboszlai goes back to his RB Leipzig days before he made the £60m move to Anfield, but that interest intensified greatly in 2025/26 after the decision-makers at top clubs around the continent took note of his 25 goals and assists from midfield and right back.
Fabrizio Romano reports: “Liverpool were not going to extend the contract.
In a couple of weeks or months, it [Szoboszlai contract situation] in 2027 was going to be a top, top, top target for a top, top, top club.
“So there were already movements from clubs trying to understand ‘is he going to stay, is he going to sign a new contract at Liverpool or not.’
“So Liverpool did a very good move by getting a deal done with Szoboszlai.”
