Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise has urged Manchester United to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson.
Ryerson had an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Dortmund, registering 18 assists from the right wing-back position.
The Norwegian was not fully fit at the World Cup but put up a solid performance at right-back against Brazilian ace Vinicius Junior.
In an interview with BestBettingSites, Riise has now said that he would love to see Ryerson move to the Premier League this summer.
The 45-year-old added that the Dortmund star could be perfect for United, given he is powerful and can provide the right balance in attack and defence.
He said: “I would love him to go to the Premier League. He would be perfect for Manchester United.
“He’s powerful, strong, quick one-on-one, and brilliant both offensively and defensively. He’s one of the best fullbacks in the world. So please, yes!
“Though I would actually rather have him at Liverpool if that’s possible. The way he plays – his tackling, his mentality, and his sharpness.
“He’s strong, he can run up and down all day, and he has great delivery on set-pieces. He has that perfect mentality. In the best way possible, he’s a bit crazy on the pitch.
“He plays with so much energy and is just all over the place, which is perfect for English football.”
Ryerson had a phenomenal season with Dortmund, racking up 18 assists. At the World Cup, he showed the defensive side of his game.
The 28-year-old won almost three tackles and four duels on average. He was also effective on the ball with a passing accuracy of 88 per cent.
Ryerson has the traits to succeed in the English top-flight. It has been claimed that Dortmund could sell him for £26 million after the lack of progress in contract talks.
Man Utd have recently ‘renewed their interest’ in Ryerson, but they have the right-back position well covered next term with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui.
Mazraoui was exceptional as a left-back for Morocco at the World Cup. A move for Ryerson could be on the cards if manager Michael Carrick changes Mazraoui’s role.
Ryerson lacks the aerial presence of Dalot and the duel-winning ability of Mazraoui, but offers an upgrade in ball-carrying and ability to deliver crosses into the box.
It remains to be seen whether United formalise their interest in Ryerson this summer.
