Brock Purdy And The San Francisco 49ers Could Make NFL History In Their First Five Games Of 2026

According to Maiocco on July 17, Purdy only requires 147 pass attempts through the first five games of the 2026 season in order to have a total of 1,500 pass attempts in his career. Provided he plays at his present proficiency level, Purdy will record the highest passer rating in NFL history.
“I’d say 5 games into the season, Brock will have attempted 147 passes by then, when he hits 147, that gives him 1,500 pass attempts for his NFL career. At this pace, as long as those 147 passes go like his previous 1,353 have gone, Brock will be the all-time leading player in NFL history when it comes to passer rating. Right now, he’s at 104.0 and currently atop the list in NFL history are Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson at 102.2. So, if that’s not a top-10 quarterback, then I’m not sure what is.”

The numbers back up Maiocco’s argument. Through his first four NFL seasons, Purdy owns a 104.0 career passer rating, already the highest mark in the 49ers franchise history. His first full season as a starter saw him lead the league in yards per attempt, earn Pro Bowl honors and finish fourth in MVP voting.
His efficiency has remained just as impressive in high-pressure situations. According to CBS Sports, 58.3 percent of Purdy’s third- and fourth-down pass attempts in 2025 resulted in first downs, the best conversion rate recorded by any quarterback over the past 35 seasons.
San Francisco’s QB room has also earned widespread praise entering 2026.
