Just a little over a week before their first public training camp practice, the New England Patriots began cutting down their roster.
The Patriots announced Thursday that they cut undrafted defensive tackle Travis Shaw. Shaw originally signed with the Patriots on May 20.
Shaw, 21, played three seasons of college football at North Carolina before suiting up at Texas in 2025. The 6-foot-5, 334-pound lineman played in 13 games for the Longhorns last year and collected 13 tackles. Shaw concluded his college career with 68 total tackles and two fumbles recoveries.
Shaw was always a longshot to make the Patriots’ roster, especially since the interior defensive line is one of New England’s strongest positional units. Milton Williams and Christian Barmore highlight that group while Cory Durden, Eric Gregory, Joshua Farmer and Leonard Taylor III all provide solid depth.
Patriots rookies are expected to report to training camp next Tuesday with veterans reporting a few days later on Friday. The Patriots will hold their first training camp session open to the public and media next Saturday.
