1. Mayor Jones wants San Antonio involved in VA psychedelic trials (sanantonioreport.org) β San Antonio's mayor is pushing for the city to host VA psychedelic therapy trials and secure $30 million in federal funding for a new VA hospital, aiming to better serve the region's large veteran community. Local researchers at UT Health San Antonio and STRONG STAR are already national leaders in PTSD studies and hope new VA-backed projects will bring more clinical trials here.
2. Man found dead near U.S. 90 after apparent hit-and-run, says San Antonio police (expressnews.com) β A man was found dead early Thursday on San Antonio's far West Side after apparently being struck by a vehicle near Spurs Ranch and U.S. 90. Police say a passing driver discovered the victim in the roadway and called 911, and investigators are still working to determine when the crash happened and whether it was a hit-and-run.
3. Shaq is returning to San Antonio β this time as DJ Diesel (lmtonline.com) β Shaquille O'Neal is bringing his DJ Diesel persona to downtown San Antonio's 1902 nightclub on September 18, with tickets starting around $49. The former Cole High School star returns to his old hometown for an 18+ late-night EDM show inside the historic train-station venue.
4. San Antonio Spurs release 2026-27 preseason schedule (ksat.com) β Spurs fans in San Antonio can now circle October preseason dates, with three home games at Frost Bank Center and tickets already on sale. The team opens Oct. 8 against Atlanta, bringing hometown product Kingston Flemings back, before additional matchups with the Suns, Jazz, and Kings ahead of the regular season.
5. SAPD: Man dead after officer-involved-shooting on East Side (ktsa.com) β San Antonio police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead early Thursday on the East Side near the 800 block of Hammond Avenue. Officials say the man allegedly pointed a gun at officers after a bike stop, prompting four officers to fire; his identity has not yet been released.
