Brandon Cisse and the Green Bay Packers are beginning a new chapter together, but the rookie defensive back is carrying a meaningful piece of his past onto the field. Cisse recently explained why he wears No. 2, revealing that the jersey number represents both a family connection and admiration for one of the greatest defensive players to ever wear Green Bay colors.
For Cisse, the number first became special while watching his older brother compete in high school. Seeing his brother wear No. 2 left a lasting impression during his childhood, and the number quickly became his personal favorite. That early influence remained with him throughout his football journey, giving the jersey a sentimental value that extends far beyond the game itself.

His appreciation for No. 2 was strengthened by another childhood inspiration. Cisse grew up watching Hall of Fame defensive back Charles Woodson, whose memorable performance in the Rose Bowl and remarkable NFL career established him as one of football’s iconic defenders. Woodson’s confidence, versatility and playmaking ability made a lasting impact on the young cornerback, who viewed him as the standard for excellence at the position.
Now wearing the same number as he begins his professional career, Cisse hopes to create a legacy of his own in Green Bay. While he understands the history attached to the jersey, he also recognizes that earning respect will depend on his performance rather than the number stitched across his uniform. His focus remains on proving himself through consistent play, disciplined preparation and steady development as he adjusts to the NFL.

Cisse explained why he went with the number two for his jersey. This can be seen in a video posted by the team’s official website.
“My older brother wore number two when I was a little kid,” Cisse said. “He was in high school, and number two has always been my favorite number because if you guys know Charles Woodson in the Rose Bowl, had the rose in his mouth. He wore number two. Just always been a fan of his game and always liked number two.”
The Packers have invested in young defensive talent with the expectation of building a faster and more dynamic secondary, and Cisse represents part of that long-term vision. His athleticism, competitive mindset and willingness to embrace the franchise’s traditions have already made him an intriguing addition to the roster. Carrying a number associated with football greatness only adds another layer of motivation as he works toward establishing himself.
As training camp approaches, Cisse enters his rookie season with a number that reflects both family pride and football inspiration. If he can pair that motivation with continued growth on the field, No. 2 could eventually become associated not only with the legends who inspired him but also with the promising career he hopes to build in Green Bay.
