Rio Ngumoha, who is the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool history, joined the club’s academy from Chelsea in September 2024 and impressed during pre-season ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
He made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Newcastle United in August 2025, scoring in the 100th minute to secure a 3-2 victory and become the club’s youngest-ever scorer at 16 years and 361 days.
Weeks later, Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest player to feature in European competition when he came off the bench in a Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.
The teenager signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in September 2025 and later made his first Premier League start against Tottenham at Anfield. He also earned an England debut against New Zealand after joining Thomas Tuchel’s pre-World Cup camp.
According to the Telegraph, Ngumoha is being considered for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad next season as the head coach builds a team capable of challenging for Euro 2028.
The 17-year-old, who was part of England’s pre-World Cup camp in Florida last month, impressed Tuchel and his coaching staff, earning his senior debut against New Zealand despite initially joining as a training player.
Ngumoha also impressed against a local Miami side during the squad’s training camp in Palm Beach as England’s players adapted to conditions in the United States.
Ngumoha received encouragement from senior England players that he would have future opportunities with the national team after making a strong impression during the camp.
Tuchel will continue to monitor his progress at Liverpool under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who has a reputation for developing young talent from his time at Bournemouth.
Ngumoha made five Premier League starts last season. However, his limited involvement under Arne Slot attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich.
Regular first-team football at Anfield would boost his chances of earning a place in England’s senior squad. Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford have occupied the left-wing role during the World Cup.
Ngumoha became the only training player to earn a cap during England’s two friendlies, despite being joined at the camp by Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri, Fulham’s Josh King and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele.
