FC Koln have moved to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. The North Rhine outfit finished 14th in the Bundesliga last term, and are looking to make an improvement on that this upcoming season.

Focusing on youth, they have now moved to sign the son of a former Liverpool star. FC Koln have officially announced the signing Reigan Heskey, the highly rated son of former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey.

It was reported earlier in the week that negotiations were underway, have now announced that a full agreement has been reached with Manchester City for Heskey’s permanent transfer, with the deal reported to be worth around €2million and including a contract running until 2030.

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, the medical has completed and the paperwork signed off on Friday, with the German club beating off competition from several top sides to secure the England youth international.

Plettenberg describes it as an “outstanding job” by Köln decision‑makers Thomas Kessler and Tim Steidten, who pushed the move over the line after weeks of talks with City.

Heskey arrives in Cologne as an 18‑year‑old winger/forward, having come through the Manchester City youth ranks and made his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in the League Cup last season.

He has impressed at under‑age level with goals and assists for City’s U21s, and Köln view him as a high‑upside attacking option who fits their strategy of recruiting “developmental” talents from elite academies.

“I was really keen to join 1. FC Köln to take the next step in my career. My discussions with those in charge have shown me that my style of play is a very good fit for the club,” said Reigan Heskey after signing a four-year deal.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Bundesliga and want to make the most of this opportunity to prove myself here. I’m ready.”

“Reigan has developed incredibly well in the past few years with Manchester City and is one of the most exciting attacking talents in his age group,” Managing Director Thomas Kessler added.

“His development is not over by a long stretch. We see a lot of potential in him, and we are convinced that he can make the step up to the next level at FC.

“In René, we also have exactly the right coach to guide him along this path, thanks to his motivational approach and his excellent rapport with young players.

“Reigan has a lot of qualities: he’s physically strong with a real eye for goal. He has a lot of pace, and is able to play in several positions.”
