"I'd love to see him at Liverpool": Reds want to sign£51m midfield destroyer ahead of Man Utd, Arsenal

**Liverpool have been tipped to make a move to sign AS Roma star Manu Kone this summer, with Stephen Warnock suggesting that the Frenchman is what the Reds need in the engine room.**

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with Liverpool in 2024 before making the move to Rome, but may be on the move this summer after his World Cup dreams ended when Spain beat France in the semi-finals.

Recently, Italian print publication Corriere dello Sport claimed that Roma want to sell Kone and are actively seeking out potential buyers. Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested with the Serie A club setting a £51m asking price.

Liverpool need more bite and aggression in midfield this summer and Kone certainly meets that need.

Liverpool urged to sign Kone this summer

----------------------------------------

Former Liverpool star Stephen Warnock believes that Kone is exactly what Iraola needs in midfield as he brings a fresh tactical philosophy to Anfield after the second-season stagnation of Arne Slot.

_“I’d love to see Manu Kone at Liverpool,”_ Warnock tells [Sport Bible](https://www.sportbible.com/football/football-news/liverpool/liverpool-tipped-to-sign-special-player-who-impressed-at-world-cup-559560-20260717)_. “I think he’s brilliant. He’s so comfortable on the ball, but he’s also aggressive and physical. He’s probably exactly what Liverpool need – an enforcer in midfield who can also play._

_“The other thing is his stature. When you look at Liverpool’s recent signings – Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz – they’re not particularly big players. Liverpool need more height in the team._

_“From defensive and attacking set-pieces, you need players who can score headers and clear their lines, and Kone gives you that.”_

Kone or Wharton? Midfield destroyer or playmaker?

-------------------------------------------------

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Wharton this summer, but he would cost £80m. The Crystal Palace maestro is one of the best passers in the Premier League and would certainly make them a menace on the counter-attack.

But after Liverpool leaked 53 goals in the Premier League last season, it’s arguable they need defensive solidity more than they need another creator.

Liverpool already have Florian Wirtz, so it’s not like they lack creativity in central areas, while Kone’s skillset is something only Wataru Endo can boast, but he’s now 33.
