England’s defeat to Argentina on Wednesday means the latter will face Spain this weekend for the chance to be crowned world champions, with Alexis Mac Allister set to go head-to-head with new Liverpool teammate Victor Munoz.
The end of the tournament could also accelerate Liverpool’s transfer plans. Speaking to the media for the first time on Monday, Andoni Iraola admitted the squad needs further additions, with the Reds expected to explore more deals.

With Yan Diomande no longer a target, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has emerged as the leading name linked with a move to Anfield, with Liverpool reportedly boosted in their pursuit of the France international.
There could also be departures, with Curtis Jones among those linked with an exit. The midfielder has dismissed reports that he has agreed a move to Nottingham Forest.
Elsewhere, Ederson has officially extended his contract with Atalanta following the collapse of his proposed move to Manchester United.
The Brazil international, who featured at the World Cup before his country’s last-16 exit to Norway, had been a reported target for Liverpool in 2024.
United had agreed a €40.5m (£34.5m) deal plus add-ons for the midfielder, but the transfer was abandoned after further medical checks.
With United completing moves for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Ederson has now committed his future to Atalanta, although the Serie A club did not reveal the length of his new contract.
A club statement read: “After an initial four-year stint with the Nerazzurri, studded with excellent results and mutual satisfaction, the bond between Ederson and Atalanta has further consolidated.
“The entire club wishes Ederson the best of luck, both personally and as a team, as he continues his journey in the Nerazzurri shirt.”
Ederson joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 and has gone on to make 180 appearances for the Italian club across four seasons, while also earning five caps for Brazil.
The midfielder was part of the Atalanta side that defeated Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League in 2024, cementing his status as one of Serie A’s top performers.
