Konsa was the bedrock of everything good about Villa’s defensive display last term, racking up 134 clearances and 22 interceptions while helping secure eight clean sheets. He essentially anchored the team to European glory. The Midlands outfit will demand an astronomical fee to even consider parting ways with him.

Arteta’s admiration doesn’t stop at the back line either. The Gunners have also shown a keen interest in Villa’s forward Morgan Rogers. That particular pursuit might stall, however, because Villa value the young attacker well north of £100m. Konsa remains the more logical, pressing target. His ability to fill in across the back four fits the manager’s obsession with tactical flexibility perfectly. A heavy bid from London could easily force the hands of the Villa decision-makers, who are trapped by those regulatory pressures.
