Charles Barkley sat down for an interview with the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast on July 17, days after the end of the American Century Championship.
Amid his discussions with the hosts, Barkley was asked about his old beef with Draymond Green from May that ended with an apology from Green for his comments that came across as disrespectful.
“What was interesting about it, I didn’t even pay it that much attention… We all drove to a bar after work. Draymond went with me that night. And I’m not even paying attention to this because I don’t do the internet.”
“So I fly, and I land, and I get 100 messages, like what? Somebody got traded or something. And then it was about the Draymond stuff, like I never even gave that a second thought.”
“I never even gave that a second thought, but I was really surprised by how many people went after Draymond and defended me. I’m not sensitive at all because I say stuff about players.”
“I hope they’re not sensitive because if I say it, I believe it. That doesn’t mean I’m always right. So that didn’t even faze me whatsoever. I can take it as much as I can dish it out…. We were too busy drinking Tequila to worry about what’s going on online.”
“Listen, man, Draymond is a good player, I was a great player. I don’t go back and forth with… listen, he’s a very good player, but we’re not on the same level,” Barkley concluded.
The beef began when Draymond Green fired back at Charles Barkley’s criticism of the Warriors in May 2026 by pointing to his short stint with the Rockets in his career. It soon backfired on Green as the media began defending Barkley, saying the failure with the Rockets was not his fault, and it shouldn’t overshadow how good Barkley was individually.
Green, who played his 14th season in the league in 2025-26, averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 41.8% from the field.
In Barkley’s Year 14, when he was on the Rockets, he averaged 15.2 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting 48.5% from the floor. This shows Barkley was clearly much better individually than Green was.
He essentially repeated what he said during his interview on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM from back in May, where he said he doesn’t “punch down” below his level, so he stopped engaging with Draymond Green.
But saying this months later may reignite an old beef with Green, who usually does not stay quiet, especially with direct shots at him. Therefore, it remains to be seen how Green responds to these comments, considering he has already apologized once to Barkley.
