Jerry Rice may be retired, but he still has no tolerance for hecklers.
The 63-year-old NFL legend made headlines during the American Century Championship. It was held at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
A viral video captured the three-time Super Bowl champion being taunted mid-swing on the tee box. A spectator shouted “Fore!” the moment Rice made contact with the ball.
It was a deliberate jab, as the term is used to warn others of an errant shot. Rice spun around immediately. He marched into the crowd demanding answers.
“Which one?” he yelled, scanning the gallery for the culprit. Fans egged him on as he gavechase to the heckler.
Rice returned to the tee box moments later to a hero’s welcome.

Jerry Rice Has a History of Heated Moments at the American Century Championship
Rice finished the weekend with a score of 72, placing 42nd in a 90-player field. Former tennis star Mardy Fish claimed the title. Fellow 49ers icons Steve Young and Kyle Juszczyk also made the trip to Tahoe, finishing 55th and 50th, respectively.
This was not Rice’s first flare-up at the tournament. In 2024, two reporters walking the course asked Rice whether the Kansas City Chiefs’ receiving corps was good enough to win a Super Bowl. Rice took it as a shot at his former team. He got in one reporter’s face before security stepped in to separate them.
The competitive fire never faded for thegreatest wide receiver in NFL history. Rice spent 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He also had stints with the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks, capping a legendary career that ended in 2004.

San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice is excited for the game during the second quarter against the Chicago Bears.
His records speak for themselves. Rice hauled in 1,549 receptions for 22,895 receiving yards and 197 touchdown catches. Those numbers still top the all-time leaderboards.
He won three Super Bowls, earned Super Bowl XXIII MVP honors, made 13 Pro Bowls and collected 10 first-team All-Pro selections. He is a member of both the NFL’s 75th and 100th Anniversary Teams.
Sixty-three years old and still running after people. Do not mess with Jerry Rice.
